When the operation of the MiG-21 and other NVA combat aircraft in Germany ended with reunification, most members of the flight engineering service were forced to look for a new livelihood, usually outside their field. Among those who managed to market their knowledge and experience under the new conditions are the employees of aero-contact in Doberschütz near Bautzen. Under the management of company founder Bernd Rehn, aero-contact offers maintenance and service for civil operators, above all of L-39s, but also of MiG-21s. In spring 2007 the author therefore paid a visit.

Thanks to Bernd Rehn for an insight into the work of aero-contact.
